It is rather like “squaring of the circle”: how can it possibly be fun to learn how to deal with clauses and contract law or to understand a contract full of legal pitfalls and small print? These are exactly the prerequisites for using gamification elements in a seminar. Game-based learning is increasingly being integrated into modern learning processes to encourage and motivate employees to continue their further education and training. This is pivoting away from the "now we have to learn something" methods which did not work in school towards more playful learning without instruction which we already did as children. In addition to the fun in gamified seminars there are other learning effects such as teamwork, creative thinking and leading negotiations. This means we learn almost without noticing and without pressure whilst playing in smaller game sequences or in full-day simulations simply because we want to win and have fun.
In the newly developed full-day learning game "Operation Legal" (OPL), BPI has tried to pack together legal subjects in a playful and application-oriented way and to take away the fear of the supposedly boring legal content. There are also full-day learning games "Operation Negotiation", "Operation Quality" and "Operation Monopolist". More information is available about our games in our games centre.
